Topic: The east wing of the cloister at La Cambre Abbey - Exceptional remains of the 13th century building - Results of the latest archaeological campaigns.
At first glance, the buildings of the former abbey surrounding the medieval church mainly belong to the 18th century. Recent restoration work on the eastern wing of the cloister has enabled the Royal Museums of Art and History, on behalf of Urban.Brussels, to carry out archaeological missions to reveal the original medieval spaces of the cloister square, both in plan and in elevation.
As part of the 'Midis Scientifiques' series of the Horizon 2030 festival, we propose to take an 800-year leap back in time to discover the exceptional medieval remains of the eastern wing of the cloister of La Cambre Abbey (which are still largely unknown), in order to understand the development of the core of the abbey, through archaeology, from its origins to its abolition at the end of the 18th century.
