The small Greek temple-like building in the Parc du Cinquantenaire was the first public commission for the young Victor Horta. Inside, the impressive relief of Les Passions Humaines, sculpted by Jef Lambeaux, is enthroned. This monumental work of Carrara marble (11 m wide by 6 m high) depicts the pleasures and misfortunes of humanity.
Since its completion in 1898, Jef Lambeaux's Human Passions relief, concealed within a neo-classical pavilion designed by Victor Horta, has rarely been accessible to the public. The mystery and sulphurous reputation surrounding it have often fired imaginations. Since 2015, both the building and the relief it houses have been restored and cleaned.
